My preferred way of working in my own teams, and with other teams is through a framework based on consensus and agreement that the best idea in the room about what is best for the project - not just any one individual or firm - is the idea that we're going with. I like to have fun, and be silly, and feel that we should be able to work that way.\nRecognizing my demographic identity though, has led me to feel a little bit ill-at-ease about just trying to just hire younger designers to help me since my work is inconsistent (pay) and I feel no particular ability to mentor or teach them effectively. That's why my first priority is to gain some insight into being a better leader, so that I can lead myself to feel capable of leading and mentoring others - I hope without any delusions of personal grandeur - for their own growth. \n\nThrough the years as I have continued to work in the theatre I find that the best collaborators and best examples for me, for how to be in the working world have been women and non-binary, or queer, or otherwise non-cis-het-white-guys like me. So I am looking to continue to learn more from the folks I have found most helpful in the past, but with a specific interest in the architectural lighting field. \n\nThis email was in my inbox this morning, and I had a minute to think about it, so it felt like a sign, but I also ABSOLUTELY understand if you're not really interested in including me, or if I don't fit the profile of the group.",
